The Link Between Sleep Apnoea and Anxiety

Anxiety is a common side-effect of Sleep Apnoea.

Sleep Apnoea can severely disrupt sleep, which can increase anxiety levels and lead to you feeling more worried, anxious and continuously stressed.

Sleep Apnoea causes your breathing to be repeatedly interrupted throughout the night. It is often characterised by heavy snoring, choking or gasping during sleep, and causes severe tiredness during the day. The condition is most common in overweight men, particularly those aged 35 and over.

If you have Sleep Apnoea, then treating the condition will usually lead to a reduction in anxiety and stress levels through better sleep quality.

To treat Sleep Apnoea, you must first take a Sleep Test.

Sufferers of Sleep Apnoea and anxiety might experience the following symptoms:

Choking sensation during sleep
Snoring
Nausea
Chest pain
Dizziness– Panic attacks
Weakness
Sweating
Rapid and irregular heartbeat
Shaking
Fear of dying (particularly by choking)
A sudden brief sensation of feeling hot and cold
